Application documents

  • Application form (only if you apply from abroad) *
  • Filled-in Power of attorney form
  • UDI's checklist, filled out and signed (this list) *

Identity documents

  • Passport and copy of all used pages in the passport *

Family documents

  • Copy of the reference person’s passport – all used pages *
  • Birth certificate of either the reference person or his or her spouse/partner/cohabitant *
  • Documentation of support *
  • If a child is affected by the application, you can include a description of the child’s situation

If missing documents

  • If necessary: a written statement explaining why you cannot provide one or more of the above mentioned documents

Reference person's prior EEA residence

If the reference person is/was an employee

  • Employment documentation (work contract or proof of employment) *
  • The three most recent payslips *
  • Tax assessment notice from the country the reference person has been working in (if you have one)

If the reference person is/was self-employed

  • Documentary proof that the company is registered in another EU/EEA country *
  • Client contracts *
  • Documentation of your reported income and expenses *
  • Proof of registration in the VAT register *
  • Accounting records and bookkeeping records *
  • Documentation of upcoming contracts, if applicable
  • Outgoing invoices *

If employed by Norwegian company abroad

  • The employment contract between the reference person and the Norwegian employer *
  • Assignment contract between the company that the reference person is employed in (or runs) and the employer in another EU/EEA country *

If sufficient own funds

  • Proof of sufficient subsistence funds for the sponsor and his/her family member *
  • If the funds have been work assessment allowance, sickness benefit or unemployment benefit: documentary proof from NAV that the funds can be withdrawn from Norway
  • If the residence has been outside of the Nordic countries: health insurance for the reference person
  • If the reference person has worked in Norway during the stay in another EU/EEA country: employment contract

If the reference person is a student

  • Confirmation of admission to an approved study programme *
  • Proof of sufficient subsistence funds for the sponsor and his/her family member *
  • If the residence has been outside of the Nordic countries: health insurance for the reference person

EEA right of residence in Norway

  • Documentation showing that the reference person has the right of residence in Norway by being an employee, self-employed, student, or that the person in question has enough money to support himself and his family *
  • If the reference person is a student or will support you in Norway using own money: health insurance for the applicant

Living in another EEA country

  • The registration card of the reference person *
  • A copy of the applicant’s residence card *
  • A copy of the application for a residence card (if the applicant has not yet received a residence card)
  • Registration in the National Registry or other registration by the authorities *
  • Bank account printout *
  • Rental agreement/sales contract for your home *
  • Documentary proof that children go to day-care centre or school *
  • Letters received at your common address *
  • Documentary proof if the reference person has been commuting to Norway
  • Written statement of why the application is handed in such a long time after the reference person came to Norway
  • Documentary proof if the applicant could not come to Norway at the same time as the reference person (for example due to termination of employment or termination of studies)
