Jeune au pair (Young au pair — VLS-TS)

The VLS-TS Jeune au pair is a long-stay visa for non-European young people aged 18 to 30 who are placed with a French host family in exchange for light household tasks and childcare, primarily to improve their French. The placement must be formalised in a written convention covering hours (maximum 25 per week), pocket money (minimum €320 per month), accommodation, meals, and French-class arrangements. The host family must be of a different nationality and have no family relationship with the au pair. The initial visa lasts one year and can be extended once, for a maximum total stay of 2 years.

From the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs

“Decisions by the Embassy of France in Hanoi or the Consulate-General in HCMC. Post-arrival: VLS-TS validation on ANEF within 3 months of arrival — standard long-stay window. After the initial 1-year period, one extension via a new convention is permitted, capped at a total stay of **2 years**. Préfecture fees per F15813 (CESEDA R426-13 to R426-15): €100 timbre fiscal at VLS-TS validation upon arrival; €150 taxe at delivery of the first carte de séjour (so €250 total at first issuance after the VLS-TS year); €100 at each renewal of the carte de séjour temporaire. Distinct from the €350 entrepreneur/talent schedule — verify the jeune au pair specific amounts on F15813 before each filing. EES does NOT apply.”
