Service civique — Résidence-conversion track (NOT a Vietnam-entry route)

Service civique is not a direct entry route from Vietnam. It requires at least 1 year of prior legal residence in France with a qualifying titre de séjour — Vietnamese nationals cannot apply for this from Vietnam and enter France on a service civique basis. This sub-track applies to people already lawfully living in France (for example on a student or intern visa) who want to convert their status to service civique participation. The standard age band is up to 25 years (until the 26th birthday), with some specialised missions allowing up to 30. Vietnamese clients in Vietnam seeking to volunteer in France should be redirected to the CES (volunteer-evs) route instead.

From the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs

“Not a visa entry track from Vietnam. Applicants already in France apply for a change of status at the préfecture. The resulting residence document is a carte de séjour temporaire with the mention « stagiaire / service civique » per F13278. Age band: up to 25 years (26th birthday) for standard service civique; up to 30 for certain specialised missions. Verify age fit before advising. Vietnamese applicants seeking to volunteer in France from Vietnam must be redirected to volunteer-evs (CES). EES does not apply to long-stay titre de séjour holders.”
