What you need

  • You must show purpose (course registration / invitation letter from a recognised institution, CV + motivation letter with post-course return plans), funds coverage (blocked account at least 720 EUR/month with 720 EUR monthly withdrawal limit, or scholarship, or Verpflichtungserklärung), EUR 30,000 medical insurance with repatriation cover, proof of your situation in Vietnam, and a passport valid for 3+ months from your Schengen exit date with 2 empty pages.

Application and identity

  • Schengen Visa application form completely filled out and signed by the applicant *
  • Two recent, identical, biometric passport photos (45mm x 35mm) *
  • Original passport or official travel document (No plastic covers/envelopes!) *
  • Vietnamese residence permit for foreigners
  • Additional information sheet pursuant Section 54 (2) 8 in conjunction with Section 53 of the Residence Act (signed by the applicant) (= "Belehrung") *

If the applicant is a minor

  • Declaration of consent from the parents and birth certificate of the child

Studies and course documents

  • Confirmation of course registration / invitation letter from the institution (university or language academy) containing information about type and duration of the course / studies *
  • Confirmation letter from the institution (university or language academy) confirming the payment of the course fees (if applicable) or else who will cover the fees; cash transfer receipt (if applicable) *
  • Curriculum vitae and motivation letter (including detailed information about plans after the return to Vietnam) *
  • Diplomas of already completed studies / German language certificates (if existent) / job references (if existent and mentioned in the CV)

Proof of your situation in Vietnam

If employed

  • Labor contract stating position, length of employment
  • Bank statements (no savings accounts)
  • Statement from the employer that the applicant is granted (paid or unpaid) leave
  • Social security booklet

If self-employed

  • Business register
  • Company's tax return statement of the last 3 months

If a student

  • Confirmation of school/university enrolment for the current year and the student card

Proof of sufficient funds

  • Confirmation of account opening of a "blocked account" in original. The blocked account must have sufficient credit (at least 720 Euros per month, monthly withdrawal limit also 720 Euros) in order to cover the costs arising for the duration of the planned stay in Germany
  • Formal obligation letter (= Verpflichtungserklärung), obtained at the local Ausländerbehörde in Germany; the original must be presented for the visa application
  • Confirmation of scholarship by German public authority/institution
  • Bank statements (not applicable for students, only for employees)

Family status

  • Marriage certificate (if applicable) + ID card of the spouse + residence permit of the spouse, if they currently stay in the EU/Schengen area
  • Birth certificate of all children of the applicant (if applicable) + ID cards of all the children + residence permits of the children, if they stay currently in the EU/Schengen area
  • Vietnamese family book

Travel and accommodation

  • Valid (existing) hotel bookings/reservations or private accommodation with full address (name, street, city, zip code, contact information, booking reference) *
  • Travel itinerary *

Insurance and previous visas

  • Original of expired/old passports or travel documents (in addition to your current passport)
  • Compulsory paid travel medical insurance (specifications: valid for all Schengen states, covers entire period of intended stay, covers the cost of emergency treatment and transport to home country for medical reasons, minimum coverage shall be EUR 30,000) *
